The alpaca industry in the United States has grown tremendously since the early 1980's, but with less than 55,000 alpacas in North America, the alpaca industry is still in its infancy. With increased visibility and the marketing efforts of the alpaca industry, educational needs have risen dramatically. The Alpaca Breeders' Clinics provide prospective and new breeders with a solid foundation in order to make proper care decisions and develop their farm & breeding program. The Neonatal Lab provides both alpaca breeders and veterinarians alike with in-depth information for neonatal care and reproductive health.

The Alpaca Buyer's Clinic -- Saturday, November 17th 2007

Get Started with ABC and the "Building Blocks" of the Alpaca Industry! The Alpaca Breeders' Clinics have been offered for 12 years, at various locations across the country. The 120+ page Alpaca Breeders' Clinic book is now updated yearly to reflect the changing needs of the alpaca industry. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Pat Long serving as one of the presenters. Dr. Long is considered to be one of the top camelid vets in the world, and he will work with attendees, demonstrating how to give shots and other herd management routines as well as leading in-depth discussions on herd health and nutrition. Be a part of practical and cutting edge learning.

A varied series of mini-seminars, demonstrations, hands-on experiences and wide-ranging question-and-answer sessions provide "first-time" buyers and new owners with the information they need to get started. Topics include an overview and history of the industry, tax considerations and business planning, conformation and pre-purchase examinations, herd health and nutrition, desirable and necessary facilities and equipment, insurance and sales contracts, and whatever else people want to discuss. The seminars are presented in an informal setting by an array of experienced professionals. The first half of the day will be in a large seminar format with the afternoon divided into on site/hands-on education.
